Sting Viper Cross Train Speed Skipping Rope - Black

Aircraft cable, aluminium handles, bearing swivels - the speed rope from Sting's Viper range.

The Sting Viper Cross Train Speed Skipping Rope is built for the kind of skipping boxers actually do: fast, sustained rounds where rope speed and footwork matter more than tricks. A 2.5mm coated aircraft cable gives the rope enough mass to hold a clean arc at speed without whipping, and it's cut at 10ft (approx. 3m) so it can be trimmed and set for your height - clamp, cut, done.

The handles are heavy-duty 15cm aluminium with a knurled easy-grip finish that doesn't slip once your hands are sweating, and each one connects to the cable through a closed-bearing swivel. That dual-bearing setup is what lets the cable turn freely under the handle rather than twisting the cable itself, so the rotation stays smooth and consistent through double-unders and long conditioning rounds.

Who It Suits

Boxers, kickboxers and MMA athletes doing round-based skipping for footwork and conditioning, CrossFit and cross-training athletes chasing double-unders, and anyone who has worn out a PVC rope and wants one that turns faster. If you're brand new to skipping, a heavier PVC rope like the Fitness Hero PVC Speed Rope is more forgiving to learn on; the Sting Speedplus 9ft is the lighter-duty Sting option.

Setting The Length

Stand on the middle of the cable with one foot and pull the handles up beside you. For speed skipping and double-unders the handle tops should reach roughly armpit height; for general fitness, shoulder height gives a little more clearance. Set the cable to that length in the handle clamp, then trim the excess with cable cutters and leave a few centimetres spare in case you want to lengthen it later. Get it right before you cut - a cable can be shortened, not stretched.

Frequently Asked Questions

Cable or PVC rope - which should I get?
Cable ropes are faster and more consistent and are the standard for boxing conditioning and double-unders, but a mis-timed cable stings when it hits your shins. PVC is slower, heavier and more forgiving - better for learning rhythm. If you already skip comfortably, cable; if you're starting out, PVC first.

Can I use it outdoors?
Yes, but on smooth surfaces only. Concrete and asphalt chew through the coating and eventually fray the cable - rubber flooring, timber or a mat will make it last years longer.

Are the bearings replaceable?
The swivels are sealed units and aren't sold separately. Kept dry and out of grit they'll outlast the cable, which is the wear item on any speed rope.

How do I look after it?
Wipe the cable and handles dry after sweaty sessions, store it loosely coiled rather than tightly wound (tight coils put a set in the cable), and keep it away from concrete.
