The Sting Python Junior MMA Sparring Gloves are the kids' version of Sting's Python MMA glove: the same T3 leather outer and Hi-Flow Core padding, cut to a junior hand pattern so young fighters get proper knuckle protection and a secure wrist without swimming in an adult Small. At 4oz they're light enough for kids to keep their hands up through a full class, and the open-finger design lets them strike, grip and grapple the way MMA is actually trained.
A multi-loop hook-and-loop wrist closure wraps small wrists properly and stays put, a palm lock keeps the glove from twisting during clinch work, and the Sportline Plus lining manages heat and sweat so the gloves stay comfortable and don't get rank in the training bag.
Juniors roughly 6 to 14 years old training MMA, kickboxing or Muay Thai - beginners learning striking and grappling through to kids in supervised junior sparring. MMA gloves are sized by hand circumference. Measure around your child's open hand at the knuckles, not including the thumb, and match it to Sting's chart below. The glove should sit snug across the knuckles with the fingers seated fully in the loops; if they're near the top of a size, go up - kids grow and the wrist strap takes up the slack. Our Sydney showrooms have sizes on the floor to try.
MMA gloves or boxing gloves for my child?
Depends on the class. Boxing and kickboxing classes want a padded, closed boxing glove - see our boxing gloves. MMA classes need open-finger gloves like these so kids can grip, clinch and grapple. Ask the coach before buying; many junior MMA programs start kids in boxing gloves for pads and move to MMA gloves as grappling comes in.
Can they spar in 4oz gloves?
Only supervised, controlled sparring - 4oz is competition-style padding, and most clubs use bigger gloves or shin-and-head gear for junior contact. Follow your club's rules on what's required for sparring.
Do they need hand wraps?
Recommended for pad work and sparring - wraps support small wrists and keep sweat out of the glove. The Sting Quick Wraps are the easy option for kids who won't sit still for cloth wraps.
How do I care for them?
Pull the strap open and let them air dry after every session - never left in the training bag. Wipe the outer with a damp cloth and use a glove deodoriser for the lining. Keep them out of direct sun and hot cars.
