The cable that runs every pin-loaded machine, functional trainer and lat pulldown. When yours frays, kinks, loses its coating or snaps, this is the replacement: 4mm galvanised 6x19 fibre-core wire rope under a black polyurethane coating that brings it to a 6mm outside diameter - the size most commercial cable machines and trainers are built around. Rated to a 785kg breaking strain, so a full stack on a 2:1 station is nowhere near its limit.

Sold by the length - 1m for a single short cable, 5m for one or two machine cables, 10m for a functional trainer side, 20m for a full re-cable or the workshop shelf. Cut it to size, swage the fittings on, and the machine runs like new.

How much do I need?

Measure the old cable from the end of one fitting to the end of the other, add about 100mm for each swaged end, and round up to the next length. Allow for a spare while you're at it - once one cable on a machine goes, the others are usually the same age. Before ordering, measure the old cable across the coating: most gym machines run 5-6mm coated cable, and this is the 6mm. The ends need to be pressed (swaged) with the right fittings - any rigging or cable shop can do it in minutes, or contact us with the length and the fittings on your old cable and we'll quote a made-up replacement.

FAQs

Is 6mm the right size for my machine?
Measure your existing cable across the coating with a ruler or calipers. Most commercial pin-loaded machines, functional trainers and cable crossovers run 6mm coated cable (4mm wire); some lighter home machines run 5mm. If yours measures 5mm or under, contact us before ordering.

Can I fit the ends myself?
Swage fittings need a hydraulic press or a proper hand swager to crimp correctly - a squashed ferrule in a vice won't hold under load. A rigging shop, cable supplier or gym service tech will press them in minutes. Never re-use a fitting off a failed cable.

How long does a gym cable last?
In a commercial gym, expect one to three years depending on use. Replace it as soon as you see broken wires poking through the coating, a kink, a flat spot or the coating peeling near a fitting - a cable that lets go under load is dangerous.

Why the polyurethane coating?
Bare wire rope chews through nylon pulleys and marks everything it touches. The PU jacket protects the pulleys, quietens the machine and keeps grease off hands and floors.
