The Sting Python MMA Shin & Foot Protector is the guard from Sting's Python MMA range built for fighters who move between striking and grappling in the same round. The outer is Sting's high-performance T3 leather - tough against shin-on-shin abrasion, lighter than full-grain hide - over high-density foam padding that absorbs and disperses the impact of checked kicks and knees.

The contoured shin plate and instep section follow the leg so the guard stays flat on contact, adjustable hook-and-loop straps behind the calf lock the shin down, and elastic heel and instep straps keep the foot section in place through transitions to the ground. Reinforced seams hold it all together through regular training.

Who It Suits

MMA, kickboxing and Muay Thai athletes from beginner through advanced who spar regularly and want a guard that protects properly without the weight or price of a full-grain leather pair. Size Chart

Sting sizes the Python by the length of the shin plate and the instep pad. Measure your own shin from just below the kneecap to the top of the ankle bone with the leg straight, then choose the size whose shin length is closest to that without being longer - the plate should end just above the ankle, not ride into the knee. If you sit between sizes, go up. Our Sydney showrooms have sizes on the floor to try.

Frequently Asked Questions

Python or Taipan - what's the difference?
The outer. The Python uses Sting's T3 synthetic leather - lighter, cheaper and very durable; the Taipan is full-grain natural leather with a multi-layered moulding system for fighters who spar hard several times a week. Same size chart for both. For most gym members the Python is the right buy.

Can I grapple in them?
Yes - that's what the Python is designed for. The low-profile plate and elastic instep let you shoot, sprawl and work from guard without the guard rotating or the straps catching. Cloth slip-ons are slimmer still, but give much less protection when the striking starts.

Do they cover the foot?
Yes - this is a shin-and-instep guard. The instep section covers the top of the foot, held by an elastic heel strap and toe loop, with the sole open so you keep your footing.

How do I care for them?
Open the straps and air dry after every session, never in a closed bag. Wipe the T3 outer with a damp cloth and use a spray deodoriser for the lining. Keep them out of direct sun and hot cars.
