EPDM Rubber Gym Flooring Roll - 10mm [10m x 1.2m]

12m² Coverage Per Roll | Fire Tested - Efl (SGS) | REACH Screened | Five Colour Options

The EPDM Rubber Gym Flooring Roll in 10mm is the workhorse thickness - enough rubber underfoot to handle free weights, machines and commercial traffic, in a roll format that covers ground far faster and cheaper than tiles. Each roll measures 10m x 1.2m x 10mm and covers 12 square metres in one continuous run, so you get a seamless floor with a fraction of the joins.

Built from highly compressed rubber granule with colour fleck through the surface, it lays flat, cleans easily, deadens noise and takes the punishment of daily training without denting or deforming.

Is 10mm the Right Thickness for You?

Thickness is the only decision that really matters with rubber flooring, so here's the honest breakdown.

10mm is the general-purpose gym floor. It's the right call for free-weight areas, dumbbell and bench zones, machine floors, functional training spaces, commercial studios and serious home gyms. It gives you real cushioning underfoot, noticeably better noise control than thinner rubber, and enough mass to shrug off dragged benches, dropped dumbbells and heavy foot traffic.

Where to go thinner: if you only need surface protection over cardio rows, walkways or a garage floor, the 5mm roll covers the same 12m² for less.

Where to go thicker: 10mm is not a barbell drop zone. If loaded bars and bumper plates are being dropped from height, put 30mm EPDM tiles under the platforms, racks and deadlift areas. Most gyms run rolls across the general floor and tiles only where the weights land - that's the cheapest way to floor a facility properly.

Key Features

  • 12m² per roll - 10m long x 1.2m wide, covers a large area fast with minimal seams
  • 10mm compressed rubber - genuine cushioning and shock absorption for free-weight and machine floors
  • Five colour options - Blue, Pink, White and Green fleck, plus Plain Black
  • Non-slip surface for safe, controlled movement under load
  • Sound dampening - the extra mass over 5mm makes a real difference upstairs and in shared-wall spaces
  • Independently certified - EN 13501-1 fire classification, EN 14041 and EN 14904 compliance, REACH SVHC screened
  • Water resistant, non-toxic and non-static - wipes clean, no chemical smell
  • Holds its shape - will not bend, dent or deform under equipment loads
  • Loose-lay, tape or adhesive-fix depending on the traffic level

How Many Rolls Do I Need?

Each roll covers 12m². Measure your floor in square metres, divide by 12 and round up, allowing a little extra for cuts around walls, columns and equipment.

  • Single garage (approx. 3m x 6m = 18m²) - 2 rolls
  • Double garage (approx. 6m x 6m = 36m²) - 3 rolls
  • Studio or PT space (approx. 8m x 6m = 48m²) - 4 rolls
  • Free-weight floor (approx. 10m x 6m = 60m²) - 5 rolls

Independently Tested & Certified

Our rubber flooring is independently tested and certified to European standards. Certificates are available on request for fit-out, tender and compliance documentation.

Certification Standard / Issuer Result
Reaction to Fire EN 13501-1:2018 - SGS Efl - limited flame spread, low ignitability
Floor Covering Essentials EN 14041:2018 - OCT Technology Testing Compliant
Indoor Multi-Sports Surfaces EN 14904:2006 - OCT Technology Testing Compliant
REACH SVHC Screening EC 1907/2006, 235 substances - SGS Pass - none detected
CE Attestation of Conformity EUTEST, ref TD64762501 Issued, valid to December 2030

The EN 14041 and EN 14904 assessment covers slip resistance, water-tightness, shock absorption, wear resistance, rolling load resistance, electrical behaviour and content of dangerous substances - the characteristics a certifier, architect or facility manager will ask about on a commercial floor.

Why REACH matters: if you're fitting out a school, childcare centre, council facility or healthcare space, the SGS screening tested this rubber against 235 Substances of Very High Concern on the European Chemicals Agency candidate list and detected none above the reporting limit. A lot of cheap imported rubber flooring has never been screened at all.

Installation Tips

  1. Prepare the area: the subfloor should be clean, dry, level and free of dust or debris
  2. Let it relax: unroll the flooring and leave it flat for 24-48 hours - rubber holds a curl from the roll and settles out on its own, faster in warm weather
  3. Plan your runs: lay rolls in the same direction and butt each 1.2m edge tightly against the last
  4. Cut to size: trim edges, corners and cut-outs with a sharp utility knife and a straight edge - score deep and repeat rather than forcing one pass, as 10mm needs a few passes
  5. Secure the joins: loose lay works in low-traffic rooms; use double-sided flooring tape on the seams and perimeter for most gyms, or full adhesive for commercial and high-traffic floors
  6. Finish the edges: tuck under skirting where possible, or seal the perimeter with tape or trim

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How much floor does one roll cover?
12 square metres. Each roll is 10m long and 1.2m wide. Divide your floor area by 12 and round up to get your roll count.

What's the difference between 5mm and 10mm?
5mm is a protective surface layer for cardio zones, walkways and floor protection. 10mm gives you genuine cushioning, better noise control and enough mass for free weights, benches and machines. If weights are involved at all, take the 10mm. If it's purely surface protection, the 5mm roll will do the job for less.

Can I drop barbells and bumper plates on it?
Not from height. 10mm handles dropped dumbbells, dragged equipment and general training impact, but a loaded bar coming down from the hip needs more rubber underneath it. Lay 30mm EPDM tiles in the platform and deadlift areas and run this roll across everything else.

Can you provide compliance documentation for a tender or commercial fit-out?
Yes. We can supply the SGS fire classification report (EN 13501-1, Efl), the EN 14041 and EN 14904 technical construction file, the SGS REACH SVHC screening report and the CE Attestation of Conformity. Contact us and we'll send the documents through.

How do I stop the roll curling at the edges?
Unroll it and leave it flat for a day or two before fixing anything down - rubber remembers the roll and relaxes out with time and warmth. Weight the corners while it settles, then tape or glue the seams.

Does it need to be glued down?
Not always. In a home gym or low-traffic room, loose lay with taped seams is enough - and at 10mm the weight of the material itself holds it in place well. For commercial floors and high-traffic areas, adhesive fixing is the better call.

Can I cut it to fit around walls and equipment?
Yes. A sharp utility knife and a straight edge will do it, though 10mm takes a few scoring passes rather than one cut.

Will it help with noise?
Yes - noticeably more than 5mm. Footfall, machine vibration and equipment noise all drop, which is why 10mm is the common choice for upstairs studios, mezzanines and shared-wall tenancies.

Does it smell?
It's a non-toxic, low-odour rubber with no chemical smell. Like any new rubber floor, give the room airflow for the first day or two after laying.

Does the fleck colour change the performance?
No. The fleck is part of the rubber composition - traction, thickness and durability are identical across every colour. It's purely how you want the floor to look.

Where should I use this - indoors or outdoors?
It's designed for indoor and undercover use. For exposed outdoor areas, our hybrid grass rubber tiles are the better fit.

Do you have other thicknesses or formats?
Yes - the same roll in 5mm, and 30mm EPDM tiles for impact zones. Browse the full commercial gym flooring range.
