The Wakizashi Bokken is the short blade of our training range — compact, highly durable and built for traditional Japanese arts including kenjutsu, kendo, iaido and aikido. Moulded from virtually unbreakable PPA (polypropylene alloy), it replicates the look and feel of a traditional wakizashi with the resilience to take years of drilling.

The short 62cm profile makes it the pick for close-range drills, disarming techniques and dual-wield practice — pair it with one of our katana-length bokken for classic daisho (long-and-short) training.

FAQs

What's a wakizashi, and why train with one?
The wakizashi is the traditional short companion sword to the katana. Training with it develops close-range technique, and pairing it with a katana-length bokken lets you practise classic two-sword (daisho) forms — we stock katana bokken in 100cm and 106cm to complete the pair.

Is it really unbreakable?
PPA is a high-strength, non-brittle polymer alloy — under normal training use it won't crack, chip or splinter the way timber can. Virtually indestructible in the dojo, though not warranted against deliberate abuse, and avoid striking metal or sharp-edged surfaces.

How does PPA compare to cheaper plastic trainers?
Budget PVC trainers flex, dent and lose shape. PPA is a rigid engineering-grade alloy with realistic weight and feedback — it holds its form under repeated impacts the way a training blade should.

Is it suitable for partner work?
It's built for kata and controlled partner drills under qualified instruction. It's a rigid trainer that carries real impact, so it's not intended for contact sparring — use control and appropriate protective equipment.
