ONYX 2cm Tatami Puzzle Mats - Martial Arts Flooring

The Smart Entry Point. Firm, Fast Flooring for Standing Work.

The ONYX 2cm Tatami Puzzle Mats are the value pick of the range - a firm, stable EVA surface ideal for striking drills, fitness classes, kids' training areas, and protecting floors under equipment. If your training stays on its feet, 2cm covers the job at the sharpest price per square metre.

Crafted from ultra-dense 100kg/m³ EVA foam with two surface textures and two reversible colourways - classic Tatami in grey/black, or T-Pattern in grey/black or red/blue. ONYX mats deliver a durable, professional flooring solution trusted by martial arts schools and training facilities throughout Australia.

Key Features

  • 2cm firm profile - stable underfoot for striking, footwork, fitness classes, and kids' training zones
  • 100kg/m³ ultra-high-density EVA foam - the densest foam in our tatami range, giving a firm, planted feel that resists compression and retains shape
  • Two non-slip surface styles - traditional Tatami or ribbed T-Pattern, both designed for barefoot training without mat burn
  • Reversible two-colour design - grey/black in both styles, or red/blue in T-Pattern; flip tiles for zoning, checkerboard patterns, or extended wear
  • Interlocking puzzle edges - precision-cut jigsaw edges lock securely without glue; 4 edge strips included per tile
  • Waterproof, sweat-resistant, easy to clean - built for commercial, high-volume use and easily sanitised between classes

Two Surface Styles

Tatami (Standard) - the traditional Japanese straw-mat finish: fine, continuous anti-slip lines that grip bare feet without grabbing skin. The classic dojo surface, and the gentlest option for drills involving skin contact with the mat. Available in reversible grey/black.

T-Pattern - a checker weave of small ribbed squares laid in alternating directions. Slightly more aggressive underfoot grip, and very forgiving of scuffs and wear marks - a favourite for fitness zones, kids' areas and high-traffic floors. Same density and thickness as the standard, and the only style available in the red/blue colourway alongside grey/black.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between the Tatami and T-Pattern surfaces?
Performance is identical - same 100kg/m³ density and 2cm thickness. Tatami is the traditional fine-line dojo finish, the gentlest on skin, and comes in grey/black. T-Pattern is a ribbed checker weave with slightly more underfoot grip that hides scuffs well, and comes in grey/black or red/blue. Choose on look and feel.

Which thickness should I choose?
2cm is the entry point - ideal for standing striking work, fitness classes, and kids' areas. Add cushioning for partner work with the 2.5cm, go the 3cm all-rounder for mixed classes, or the 4cm for throws and takedowns.

How many mats do I need?
Each tile covers exactly 1 square metre - just multiply your room's length by width. Edge strips are already included with every tile for a clean finish.

Is 2cm enough for throws or grappling?
No - for takedowns, throws, or regular ground work we recommend the 4cm (or minimum 3cm). The 2cm is built for training that stays standing.

Can I lay them over carpet or concrete?
A hard, flat surface like concrete or timber is ideal. Over carpet, tiles can flex at the joins under heavy use - low-pile carpet works for lighter training.

Do you supply bulk quantities for full gym fit-outs?
Yes - we supply dojos, MMA facilities, schools, and council gyms Australia-wide, with layout support available. Contact us for volume pricing.
