Tachi Bokken Training Sword – 112cm

Unbreakable Polypropylene | 700g | Detachable Tsuba

The Tachi Bokken replicates the traditional 112cm tachi — the early, longer-bladed ancestor of the katana — for serious Japanese sword work. Moulded from resilient, virtually unbreakable polypropylene, it delivers realistic handling for safe, controlled practice.

The extended curved blade, distinct tsuba guard and two-handed grip suit advanced kenjutsu, aikido and ninjutsu training, and the PP construction takes intense sessions without the splintering risk of a timber bokken.

The detailed tsuba offers subtle hand protection and authentic visual appeal — and it's removable, so you can train with or without the guard as your school prefers.

Key Features

  • Full-length traditional tachi design — longer than a katana, ideal for flowing movements and advanced forms
  • Virtually unbreakable polypropylene (PP) — high-impact resistant for long-term, heavy-use durability
  • Realistic handling — 700g across a full 112cm for authentic blade dynamics
  • Ergonomic two-handed grip — textured for control through movement and striking
  • Detachable tsuba — train with the guard on or off
  • Safer than steel or timber for dojo, outdoor and home practice

FAQs

What's the difference between a tachi and a katana?
The tachi is the katana's predecessor — longer and with more curve. At 112cm this trainer runs about 10cm longer than our katana bokken, favouring sweeping, flowing techniques.

Is it really unbreakable?
Polypropylene is a rigid, non-brittle polymer — under normal training use it won't crack, chip or splinter the way timber can. Virtually indestructible in the dojo, though not warranted against deliberate abuse.

Can I remove the tsuba?
Yes — the guard detaches, so you can run it in the traditional guarded configuration or as a clean bokken profile, whichever your school trains with.

Is it suitable for partner work?
It's built for kata and controlled partner drills under qualified instruction. It's a rigid trainer that carries real impact, so it's not intended for contact sparring — use control and appropriate protective equipment.
